Intro to Slip-Casting with Joel Kurtz
Dates: September 20th & 21st, 27th & 28th
Time: On the 20th and 27th (Saturdays) 2:00pm - 5:00pm,
On the 21st and 28th (Sundays) 10:00am - 1:00pm
Casting with ceramic slip is just like making a chocolate Easter bunny. Pour liquid chocolate into a bunny mold, wait a few minutes, pour the excess liquid out and voila! A hollow Easter bunny. The principle of slip-casting is the same but done with ceramic slip poured into a plaster mold.
In this four-day workshop you will learn how to:
Make a two or three-part plaster mold from your own chosen object.
Once you have your mold complete, we will then cast ceramic slip into the mold to create an exact replica of your chosen object.
Your casted piece will be fired when dry and ready for pick up at a later date. Please allow up to 2 weeks. Glazing to be worked out.
Requirements: Please bring one or two small symmetrical vessels or forms to the first class. These could be a favorite mug, bowl or vase, rubber ducky, or other rubber or plastic toy. Please do not bring your replica of the Statue of Liberty.
