Poetry writing Workshop
with Aisha Rivera, Napa County Poet Laureate (2023 - Present)
When: Saturday July 18
Time: 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Over this workshop participants will review and discuss a few examples of poems before engaging in various creative writing exercises and will leave with a basic understanding of poetry and will create at least one (or more) drafts of their own original poems. Following a guided prompt, participants will create their own poems! This workshop will be led by current Napa County Poet Laureate (2023 - Present) Aisha Rivera!
There will be a variety of materials including pens, pencils and paper.

Ages: All ages 14 and above are welcome!

Aisha Rivera is the current Napa County Poet Laureate (2023 - Present) an actor, visual artist, and playwright from Napa, CA. Their poetry can be found in the poetry anthologies "Poetics without Borders" and "Latinas, Gender, Race, and Class…”. They established Napa's first Poetry Open Mic at Napa Bookmine, which has now moved to Napa Valley Education Foundation near the Oxbow. The Open Mic lands on the last friday of every month from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM. Aisha also advocates for the power of poetry through education, community programming, performance, and more. Aisha believes in the power poetry holds to build community, create social change, and express the wonder rollercoaster that is the human experience.
